Zlio is a Four Letter Word - Featured on Reuters
Zlio.com, the free e-commerce site company, has been featured on Reuters. In the article, Anupreeta Das sat down with several "Zlionauts" to find out how they got into Zlio and what they think of the site - including one publisher who started his online Yoga shop at Zlio as part of an experiment and now gets over 5,000 hits every month. Founder and Chief Executive of Zlio, Jeremie Berrebi, compared the company to Tupperware, where social interaction and recommendations play a huge part in retailing products. Zlio.com allows people to create their own professional online stores within minutes, offering a wide range of goods which anyone can add to a store, along a social networking component. All a shopkeeper needs to do to have a functioning e-commerce site is use templates to create the "shopfront" and then select products to display. It is as easy as pointing and clicking. All shipping and handling is taken care of by the companies actually providing the goods, and commission of up to 10% is paid directly to a storekeeper's PayPal account. Zlio earns its profit by sharing part of the revenue. Widgets are available to promote an individual store on websites or within other social sites such as MySpace or Facebook. According to Reuters, so far, people have created more than 250,000 stores, with shopkeepers making on average $300 per month. Top sellers can reportedly make ten times that amount. Reuters reports that Zlio.com generated $12 million in sales last for the companies whose products they display. The company is beginning to get interest from some serious investment contenders. Berrebi comments that the name Zlio means nothing ... "It's just a four-letter word." It's a four letter word that will probably be heard a lot more often in months to come. |
