What To Do About Faulty Products
Ever tried to put a disposable diaper/nappy on your child, only to have the tab break off in your hand? Or perhaps you have bought a toy or appliance, and when you opened the box half of it is missing? Or maybe you opened a block of cheese only to find it mouldy well before its use-by date? Don't just get angry and do nothing. Most products have a name, address and perhaps even a phone number or email address printed on them. If the product you have bought is faulty, then contact the company. Most companies would much prefer to hear from you and have the opportunity to resolve the problem. If you are unhappy, you will tell people, and that is bad advertising for the supplier. It is in the company's best interest to help you and to replace the product. When contacting a company, make sure that you have as many details available as possible. Some questions you might be asked are: - Date of purchase - Place of purchase - The nature of the problem - The barcode number - The serial number - The use-by date If, for any reason, the company is unwilling to help you, you can always take it to the appropriate authority in your country. Make sure that you ask for the name of the person you speak to, and keep a record of your phone calls, emails or letters in case you need the information later. Don't be afraid to complain. On the occasions I have contacted companies, I have always had the product replaced, or received compensation for the cost of the product. Genuine complaints improve service and quality for everybody. |
